As a wood worker, the only people who really know how much time and energy it takes to do a "simple" project is the wood worker. Case in point a "simple" wood USA Flag Cross. It can't possibly take more than a few minutes to make?. The fact is that it usually takes between 5 - 6 hours to make it right. Here in a nut shell are the steps I take to make this flag. (Sorry about the messy shop, but that is the sign of genius at work!!!)
Step 1: Design the project. For me I usually design it in my head and on scratch paper.
Step 2: Find the right wood and cut it to size. This involves the table saw and the miter saw.
Step 3: Sand, Sand and sand some more. Camfer edges.
Step 4: Align pieces and glue together - clamp pieces together. - WAIT!
Step 4: Install a backer board to hold pieces together and in alignment. More glue and brad nails.
Step 5: Sand again and then torch the flag. (Carefully and cautiously!)
Step 6: Tape it off and start to paint the red stripes. - The tape off and paint to blue section. (Let dry)
Step 7: Apply the wood stars - 18 in all
Step 8: Apply name of customer to the cross (To be done)
Step 8: Apply clear varnish or shellac. (To be done) - Let dry!!!
Step 9: Install hanging bracket on back.
Step 10: Praise the Lord for this great country and His daily blessings!
God Bless the USA and you!
